World Thrombosis Day 2025

October 13th: World Thrombosis Day

Our Commitment to a Silent Threat

Today, October 13th, the world unites to bring visibility to one of the most stealthy and yet most prevalent health threats: thrombosis. On this day, we not only remember the shocking statistics, but we also reaffirm our commitment to education, prevention, and the continuous improvement of patients’ quality of life. Because knowing the problem is the first step to overcoming it.

A Reality That Demes Action

The statistics are eloquent and cannot be ignored. Globally, it is estimated that one in every four deaths is related to thrombotic causes. Behind this number are stories, families, and a profound impact that drives us to act. Every year, more than 10 million people are affected by Venous Thromboembolism (VTE), which encompasses Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE).

But the challenge does not stop there. In critical hospital settings, where patients are at their most vulnerable, another front emerges: catheter occlusion. In up to 25% of cases, these essential devices for administering treatments or performing dialysis can become obstructed. This complication is not a mere inconvenience; it represents a serious interruption in vital therapies, increases the risk of infection, and can lead to the loss of crucial vascular access, further complicating the patient’s recovery.

Our Response: A Multidimensional Commitment

Faced with this panorama, our role goes beyond observation. We are committed to a comprehensive approach that prioritizes prevention, awareness, and innovation in risk management.

Education as the First Line of Defense: We firmly believe that information saves lives. Thrombosis is treacherous because, in many cases, it presents no symptoms until it is too late. Therefore, part of our mission is to disseminate knowledge about its risk factors—such as immobilization, certain medical conditions, or post-operative periods—to empower individuals and healthcare professionals in the early identification of signs.

The Power of Physical Measures and Active Vigilance: Promoting habits and protocols that prevent clot formation is fundamental. Strategies such as the early mobilization of patients, hydration, and the use of compression measures are undeniable pillars in the fight against thrombosis. They are seemingly simple actions, but with a monumental impact on patient safety.

Commitment to High-Risk Environments: We recognize the specific needs of patients in intensive care units, oncology, or hemodialysis. In these contexts, the management of vascular access is an absolute priority. Our commitment is focused on supporting best practices, emphasizing that meticulous maintenance techniques and constant vigilance are key to maintaining the functionality of these devices, avoiding treatment interruptions, and protecting the patient from preventable complications.

Information is also Prevention

Thrombosis does not always show its face, but its impact can be devastating. On this World Day, we want to send a clear message: the fight against this condition is a shared responsibility. It is about being alert, prioritizing prevention in every protocol, and understanding that maintaining vascular access in optimal condition is an act that, literally, saves lives every day.

Our commitment is to continue working side by side with the medical community to prevent thrombotic causes from continuing to impact our lives.
